The English Way
On its fascinating route, the Camino Inglés (English Way) crosses the heart of the Miño lands. The route advances through the municipality for 9 kilometers, from the village of Buíña to Ponte do Porco. Along a rich cultural and landscape variety, in which the walker feels part of an exceptional environment. Allowing you to enjoy a landscape that combines sea and interior together with indispensable enclaves to understand the history of the road, which takes us back to the most medieval Europe, such as the Baxoi bridge, or the beautiful town of Ponte do Porco.
The illustrious Fray Martín Sarmiento during one of his trips to Ferrol in 1745, described it in his diary as follows: "This intermediate territory is the most amusing in sight that can be desired".
On foot or by bicycle, this path traced throughout history is one of the most traveled paths for humanity. Reaching its peak in the late Middle Ages and early Modern Ages and attracting people and societies from all over Europe. Especially Englishmen, Scots and Irish who arrived in Galicia by boat and landed in the safe estuaries of Coruña and Ferrol. They all contributed to fix what we know today as the English Way.
The strategic location of these ports clearly boosted the route, in fact in 1434 it is known that more than 3000 pilgrims landed in A Coruña.

Route of the Medio river mills
The route of the mills of the river Medio offers us an unbeatable environment for hiking, immersing us in a riverside forest in which heritage and cultural resources are mixed with landscapes, allowing us to enjoy nature in an environment of singular beauty. You can start from Alameda beach, in Ponte do Porco, taking the CP 4804 road to the left of the bridge over the river Lambre, in the direction of Vilarmaior. After six kilometres, you will find the beginning of the path and an explanatory panel. The route of the mills is a small circular path of 1.3 km that runs along a stretch of the river Medio, a tributary of the Lambre, and which can be started at either end. From the Chapel of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe it is a continuous descent to the river. The ascent from the old Fábrica da Luz has some demanding slopes, but due to its short duration and constant stops, it is within the reach of any walker. It crosses a dense and fresh stretch of riverside forest where there are a series of 4 traditional mills, combining stretches of footbridges, paths and stone stairs. Further on, the route leaves the river and passes through a wooded area with a mixture of oak and pine trees, until it reaches the end of the route with the Chapel of Guadalupe and the fountain of Augas Santas, which, according to legend, has miraculous waters. It protects from envy and the evil eye, as well as from plagues. Popular tradition and beliefs made it a general practice to collect water from this fountain to sprinkle the land and thus preserve the crops.
