Protection of the estuary

Beach in an urban environment, in the shape of a half shell, with golden sand. It is located at the mouth of the river Lambre, following the coast towards the sea from Alameda beach. Sheltered from the winds, it is an inland estuary beach with calm waters.

Listening to nature

It consists of a wide intertidal area that is exposed at low tide, which is of great interest to waders. Its sandy area is regularly frequented by herons, egrets and cormorants, as well as migratory birds such as the common scoter and the common teal (one of the smallest ducks in Europe). Both arrive here at the end of September from northern Europe, where they will return at the end of February. In the surroundings of the river Lambre, with a little patience and a bit of luck, it is possible to see otters enjoying the nutrient-rich environment. Their droppings can be identified by the fact that they contain fish bones and scales.

Quality beach

In 2021 the beach of A Ribeira, together with the Grande beach in Miño, has been awarded the Q flag for Quality by the ICTE (The Spanish Institute for Tourism Quality). A total of 12 flags have been awarded in Galicia this year, with Miño town council receiving the only two flags awarded in the province of A Coruña as certification of excellence in tourist services, landscaping and the environment.

Your foot prints

The proper use of beaches has an impact on the wellbeing of everyone. Miño has declared all the beaches in its municipality as smoke-free beaches, and has drawn up regulations for their correct use and enjoyment. Remember to collect your rubbish and deposit it in the respective containers for recycling. May the only footprint you leave on the sand be that of your feet.

Sea promenade

With a small coastal promenade that runs along the sandy area, it is ideal for enjoying the views over the estuary. Its promenade links up with the route of the senses to the Alameda beach and Ponte do Porco with the monument to the Andrade family and the river Lambre crossed by the English Way.
Miño has a multitude of sandy beaches of great quality: the Grande beach, the Alameda, with spectacular variations in level between high tide and low tide; Perbes, or Marín and Lago of a smaller size.
